Setting up for iCast

Today has been exicting and busy.... Dean and I began the setting-up of our booth at iCast in Orlando. Personally, I knew it was going to be big, and I knew it was going to bigger than I thought it was going to be. Well... acutally, it was bigger than I thought I thought it would be! Overwhelming! It's unbelievable how elaborate the booths are... stunning, and they aren't even finished yet.

We met the gentlemen who made our neon sign (a great couple of guys!). That was just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.

Catfish and Bluegill caught on Stubby Steve's Fishing Lure

A 3-year old caught the catfish using Stubby Steve's. He likes the lure so much that when his Daddy put only a minnow on the lure, the Son said, "That's a bad idea Daddy, I want my Stubby Steve's." Who is the smarter fisherman?
The beautiful bluegill was one of many caught that day by Steve (a rainbow and many hybrid-stripers were also caught).

Anna catches a nice hybrid-Striper

In only 10 minutes fishing, Anna caught two hybrid-stripers and had several bites. She was using Stubby Steve's on a fly rod!

New Stubby Steve's Testimonials...

We've received some great feedback from fishermen and women who have tried our lure:

"I caught 5 fish in 10 minutes with only one piece of Stubby Steve's!"
Greg Ray - Kennesaw, Georgia

"Your small pellets work great! My wife and I put them on a fly rod and caught a bluegill on almost every cast."
Bob McFarland - Talco, Texas

"Yesterday, I caught the biggest bluegill I have ever caught. This thing was massive. I caught him on a Stubby Steve pellet."
Jesse Farnsworth- Texas

"I didn't have any worms and someone wanted to go fishing. I gave him your Stubby Steve's lures to try. He came back really excited by how many, many fish he caught using only one or two pieces!"
Andy's Trout Farm - Dillard, Georgia

"Spring has been cool and wet. I have been catfishing only one time... they were not biting. We used many types of baits. The only two catfish caught were on your bait."
Thomas Wilson - Donovan Lakes - Marion, Alabama

"We took our son fishing. All three of us used minnows but my son and I added a Stubby Steve's to our hook. We caught a catfish, small-mouth, and a large-mouth! His Daddy left-emptied handed... he had to suffer the consequences of NOT using Stubby Steve's!"
Jessica Robins - Springville, Virginia

Hybrid-Stripers went crazy for Stubby Steve's

Steve, Jessica, Montana and I went fishing yesterday evening. We didn't have a bite for what seemed like a long time. Finally, I caught a fish... it didn't take long for me to realize it was a hybrid-striper. They are so much fun on a fly rod! Steve was surprised how big it was when I finally got him in. Montana liked handling the net and "helped" with that part. Steve caught a smaller hybrid-striper and at the same time, I hooked an even larger one than my first. Of course, I had to get tangled in Montana's fishing line so that was a fun mess to deal with afterwards! My line broke on my third fish (thanks again to Montana's line) so I was left to only take photos. Steve caught two more stripers and the last was the biggest of all! All fish were caught on Stubby Steve's!

Too many catfish caught!

We have been contacting people who I've sent samples of our Stubby Steve's lure this week... just checking in with them. The funniest conversations are taking place! We talked to a pay-to-fish pond (actually, they have seven ponds)that stocks catfish in Texas.... a young man answered the phone and told us that as soon as he opened the package he went fishing. He caught so many of their catfish that his dad took the lures away from him!

Student, Alumnus invent psychological fish bait...

Jack LeBlanc, from LSU, wrote this wonderful article for the Reveille paper. I love his twist on our story! We appreciate the time he took to research and interview those involved....

Fish Eating Fish Food (and now you see why we made our lure)!

Some people are confused why we made our lure the way it is. One of my favortie questions we were asked is: "why did you make it brown?".... which led us to realize that alot of people don't know fish are raised on and fed fish food.

This is a piece of fish food. Looks just like our lure! Stubby Steve is the same size as Aquamax 600 fish food. Our motto is, "tricked again"... can you see why?!?

Buy Stubby Steve's at Magic Mart!

It's an exciting day for us! We are now in 21 Magic Mart department stores! It was such a memorable moment to see our lure right there with Berkley's. The way our package stands out is proof that we made the best decision in going with blue instead of yellow! I have to admit, I was voting for the yellow (and this is the last time I admit it). The blue is beautiful!

Of course, Stubby Steve's is still available on our internet store but we do wish for fishermen in a Magic Mart area to buy it there. We encourage everyone to help support their local businesses.

This is the news clip that Mr. Brunner did from WOAY channel 7. We were all impressed with the composition. Mr. Brunner did an excellent job

Dean's Striper

I took this "snap shot" from the actual news clip video so it's not the best quality but I think you can definetly still see how big the Striper is! It's amazing how much they're growing in such a short time.

Stubby Steve's in the news

Yesterday was an interesting day... we received a call at work from Mr. Bob Brunner who is with WOAY in Beckley. He wanted to come and interview Doc and hopefully throw some Stubby Steve's out in the pond and catch some fish for his news piece. Of course, this was completely spur-of-the-moment for us all! Doc was planning on going out of town later that afternoon, so he had fed his fish extremely well the evening before.

Not wanting to be the only person fishing with all that stress upon me, I called our good-best-buddy, Dean Johnson, in on the adventure! Lucky for us, he was willing and happy to go fishing on a chilly, rainy afternoon with only 45 minutes notice...

Mr. Brunner was a lovely gentleman with a contagious sense of humor. He knew that Doc had fed the fish heavily and they were fat and lazy in the deep end of the pond..... as Mr. Brunner said, "they're laughing at you." We weren't having much luck bringing the fish in for the camera. Fishing can be such an unproductive sport sometimes (and at the most inconvenient times, of course). It started to drizzle rain, I was beginning to wonder if we'd get to show everyone what Stubby Steve's can do... and then, Dean did it!!!! He landed the largest, most beautiful striper that gave him an honorable fight (all caught on camera). What is even more amazing is that the stripers aren't even suppose to be biting at this time of year! As he was bringing his big fish in, I had a hit! Being a smaller fish and a much easier fight, I brought my Brown trout in with a smile (of relief) on my face while Doc ran to Dean's side to help him release the big striper. Mr. Brunner's remarks said it all, "what a big fish"!!!

I hope to be able to post a photo (from the video) of Dean's striper! These photos were taken after Mr. Brunner said his goodbyes. Dean caught a beautiful trout and had several hits. We three were happy with the results and left to let those fat, lazy fish get back to the deep end to continue their nap....

Anna's Rainbow

Last night Anna caught a rainbow to make trout patties with. Pretty impressive to have been caught on a fly rod and of course, she used Stubby Steve's!

Gone fishing...

My brother took me to a local catfish pond so we could get photos of the fish being caught with our Stubby Steve's... Montana, (my Nephew) did the most fishing! Unfortuantely, we didn't catch anything. The pond had just thawed the day before and it was still early in the day.... not the best conditions for catching a catfish! At least Montana looks like he had fun! I'll be back when their tournanments begin....

"Area vet invents unique fish lure"

This is an exciting day.... we opened up the local newspaper and found an article about Stubby Steve! Jim Nelson (the writer) is brilliant with his words and a wonderful man. He took time to talk with Steve and this is the result of it...

New fishing lure for 2009

It would make sense for me to show what Stubby Steve's actually looks like.... Anna took this photo with her new camera and she did an amazing job capturing the pores and tiny bits of fish food! Just imagine.... as soon as the Stubby Steve's hits the water, fish food particles emerge from the lure and the fish go crazy! We've put 3 or 4 Stubbies in a cup of water and come back hours later to find the lures still floating and an amazing amount of fish food particles on the bottom! Other competitors turn to a mushy mess! Our lure still smells like fish food and holds its shape after being in water all day!

Yesterday, our packages finally came in... we've waited so long to get them in hand! It didn't take us long to start the "packaging process"! Today we mailed out our first batch to family and friends.

This is our package... we've been really excited about it! The biggest decision for us was rather to have yellow or blue packaging. The samples for each were beautiful. I leaned towards the yellow but am SO glad everyone decided on the blue. It's crazy how many fishing lures are packed in yellow! So, maybe this will help us stand out from the rest!

I can't imagine anyone having a more beautiful place to do their product research! Believe it or not, this was once a tiny creek running in the middle of the woods... Some hard work, lots of friends helping, and a great amount of skill and artistry came together to make "Lake Elizadan". You won't find this on the map.... it's tucked away and treasured! Oh, and also is stocked with hybrid stripers, brooks, browns and rainbows. The perfect place to "go to work"!!!
