Stubby Steve's in the news

Yesterday was an interesting day... we received a call at work from Mr. Bob Brunner who is with WOAY in Beckley. He wanted to come and interview Doc and hopefully throw some Stubby Steve's out in the pond and catch some fish for his news piece. Of course, this was completely spur-of-the-moment for us all! Doc was planning on going out of town later that afternoon, so he had fed his fish extremely well the evening before.

Not wanting to be the only person fishing with all that stress upon me, I called our good-best-buddy, Dean Johnson, in on the adventure! Lucky for us, he was willing and happy to go fishing on a chilly, rainy afternoon with only 45 minutes notice...

Mr. Brunner was a lovely gentleman with a contagious sense of humor. He knew that Doc had fed the fish heavily and they were fat and lazy in the deep end of the pond..... as Mr. Brunner said, "they're laughing at you." We weren't having much luck bringing the fish in for the camera. Fishing can be such an unproductive sport sometimes (and at the most inconvenient times, of course). It started to drizzle rain, I was beginning to wonder if we'd get to show everyone what Stubby Steve's can do... and then, Dean did it!!!! He landed the largest, most beautiful striper that gave him an honorable fight (all caught on camera). What is even more amazing is that the stripers aren't even suppose to be biting at this time of year! As he was bringing his big fish in, I had a hit! Being a smaller fish and a much easier fight, I brought my Brown trout in with a smile (of relief) on my face while Doc ran to Dean's side to help him release the big striper. Mr. Brunner's remarks said it all, "what a big fish"!!!

I hope to be able to post a photo (from the video) of Dean's striper! These photos were taken after Mr. Brunner said his goodbyes. Dean caught a beautiful trout and had several hits. We three were happy with the results and left to let those fat, lazy fish get back to the deep end to continue their nap....
